What are "Discuss Walls"?
A Discuss Wall is a space where lessons and activities, along with other news literacy topics, can be discussed among all students in a class. Each Checkology class has its own Discuss Wall.
(Watch the video or read the article below to learn more about discuss walls.)
Accessing a class Discuss Wall
You can access your class Discuss Wall by clicking on the "More" drop-down menu in the main navigation tabs at the top of the page and selecting "Discuss."
You can also access new Discuss posts from your Dashboard. If you scroll down to the bottom of your Dashboard, you will see if you have any new discussion activity by checking the purple "Discuss" section.
Adjusting Discuss Wall settings
When you add a class to Checkology, by default a Discuss Wall is also added for that class and is pre-populated with discussion prompts crafted by the News Literacy Project (NLP).
To adjust those settings, find the course you are interested in updating on your Dashboard and, then, click on "Edit" to the right of "Class settings." Under the "Your class settings" section, click on "Open advanced settings" to reveal the Discuss Wall settings.
From here, you can:
- Uncheck "Pre-populated posts": This will remove the NLP default prompts from the class' Discuss Wall.
- Toggle off the Discuss Wall: This will make the Discuss Wall itself no longer available to the class.
Be sure to press the green "Save" button when done making adjustments. You can update these settings for your class anytime.
